Success in Healthcare IT Projects No Matter What
ScienceSoft designs healthcare IT solutions that drive long-term clinical and financial impact, even in the face of diverse expectations of medical staff, shifting priorities, and legacy system constraints. We don't treat projects as just delivery milestones. Our mature project and quality management practices allow us to create software that is actually used by patients and medical staff, integrates well into providers' IT landscapes, and provides measurable clinical and operational value. Our work is guided by a code of ethical conduct that we uphold in our relationships with clients, business partners, and within our company. |
Strategic Org Units Driving Success in Healthcare IT Initiatives
Project Management Office (PMO)
Our certified project managers minimize delivery risks such as scope creep, cost overruns, and conflicting expectations. To keep projects on track, they rely on tried-and-true methods for planning, scope estimation, change management, and stakeholder communication. For clients running multiple initiatives in parallel, our delivery managers coordinate the entire project ecosystem to keep budgets aligned and ensure measurable outcomes.
Architecture and Solutions Center of Excellence (CoE)
Our principal architects create secure, HIPAA-compliant, and cost-efficient software architectures for every healthcare IT initiative. They enable interoperability across in-house and partner systems (including legacy software). To ensure sustainability, the team applies proven patterns for scalability, cloud readiness, and performance optimization, while factoring in long-term maintainability and regulatory compliance.
Technology and Competency Center of Excellence (CoE)
We staff projects with specialists well-versed in healthcare-specific standards and technologies. Our teams prioritize seamless data exchange and interoperability — from widely used formats like HL7 and FHIR to specialized standards such as ASTM/CLSI for labs, DICOM for imaging, and X12 for billing. They also work with clinical coding and terminology systems, including ICD-10, CPT, SNOMED CT, LOINC, and RxNorm. When client priorities shift, the CoE responds by developing and injecting new skills.
Turning Obstacles Into Wins
Challenging projects test our expertise, but they also define our ability to deliver successful solutions. Here are a few cases we are particularly proud of:

HIPAA-Compliant Healthcare AI Voice Scheduler Powered by Amazon Nova Sonic
Challenge
Healthcare providers often struggle with the high volume of appointment requests and the inefficiency of phone-based scheduling. Manual processes consume staff time, introduce errors, and create accessibility barriers for patients who must call during business hours.
Our solution
ScienceSoft designed a secure, cloud-native architecture for a HIPAA-compliant voice scheduler. The system achieved the first-ever integration of Amazon Nova Sonic with LiveKit Media Server, enabling low-latency, natural speech interaction. It was built to flexibly connect with Amazon Nova Sonic, OpenAI GPT-4o, or Google Gemini 2.5 Pro and to integrate with EHR, CRM, or PMS via FHIR-based APIs. The project was recognized as a semifinalist in the Amazon Nova Partner Demo Competition.

HIPAA-Compliant Provider-to-Provider Telehealth Platform for Scalable Behavioral Care Delivery
Challenge
Following a series of acquisitions, a behavioral health provider needed to replace a fragmented legacy system with a scalable telehealth platform. The solution had to unify provider-to-provider collaboration, ensure compliance, and integrate smoothly with multiple partner EHRs.
Our solution
ScienceSoft developed a modular, cloud-ready architecture on Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, with incremental migration to speed adoption. The system ensures interoperability with partner EHRs through HL7 v2.x and FHIR and centralizes data in Azure + Dataverse for near real-time analytics. To guarantee security, the platform is hosted on Azure and aligned with HIPAA, HITECH, SOC 1/2/3, and ISO 27001. As a result of our collaboration, the provider gained a secure, compliant telehealth platform capable of scaling nationwide, with expected 40% less manual coordination and faster reporting across its care network.

Health Information Exchange System and Patient Mobile App
Challenge
A healthcare organization sought to consolidate medical records from internal and external providers and give patients secure access to their health data via a mobile app. The solution needed to support industry standards for interoperability and meet HIPAA requirements.
Our solution
ScienceSoft built an AWS-based HIE supporting HL7, FHIR, XDS.b, and CCD, enabling comprehensive data exchange across labs, pharmacies, payors, and other stakeholders. We complemented it with a patient-facing Android app for secure viewing and sharing of PHI. The platform was designed with end-to-end HIPAA compliance, including encryption, access controls, and data anonymization. The resulting solution was certified by several state Departments of Health, and the client now offers patients easy, secure access to their medical information.

End-to-End Development of Laboratory Diagnostics Software
Challenge
A medical laboratory needed diagnostic software for genetic screening that complied with stringent EU medical device regulations and supported CE marking. The system also had to integrate with the Client’s LIMS and include full compliance documentation.
Our Solution
ScienceSoft managed the full cycle: requirements gathering, risk and safety analysis, architecture design, development, LIMS integration, and testing. The software was engineered in line with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, ISO 13485, and IEC 82304-1, and our team prepared the complete documentation set required for CE submission. As a result, the Client received a fully functional, CE-marked solution within 7 months, along with the regulatory evidence needed for IVDR/MDR certification.

Mental Health Software Audit and Refactoring
Challenge
A US-based nonprofit focused on mental health disorders involved ScienceSoft to upgrade its legacy mental health software. The complex system had scarce documentation, which complicated its revamp. Prolonged modernization would expose the client to growing operational and security risks, which was unacceptable due to the sensitive and highly regulated nature of the nonprofit’s activities.
Our solution
With a well-organized Agile collaboration, it took ScienceSoft only 4 weeks to audit the client’s mental health system, restore the missing software documents, and introduce a detailed modernization plan. Following the audit, we rearchitected the system, refactored its legacy code, and developed new features. Applying Scrum and AAMI TIR45 methodologies at the revamp stage helped us speed up releases while ensuring FDA compliance. Thanks to the robust risk, change, and budget management practices applied by the PM and team lead, the client avoided scope creep and cost overruns that often occur in complex healthcare IT projects. The delivered software documentation helped the organization streamline solution maintenance and further evolution.
At ScienceSoft, we take pride in our “Can do” culture, believing that exceptional results are achievable even in the most challenging conditions. Complexity doesn’t intimidate us — it inspires us to innovate and improve. By combining tech expertise with strategic, result-oriented project management, we help our clients succeed where others see only obstacles.
