Healthcare AI Adoption Is Outpacing Proof of Value

Published:

ScienceSoft’s Q3 2026 Healthcare AI Trend Watch finds that AI use in healthcare is already widespread, while consistent ways to prove its value remain much less established.

ScienceSoft’s analysis draws on several recent surveys. More than 90% of health systems surveyed by CCM and KLAS had deployed third-party AI. However, in a separate value-measurement question, nearly a third of the surveyed leaders admitted they had not started measuring AI value. In Black Book’s survey of 230 US and EU healthcare leaders, 76% monitored model accuracy after deployment, while only 32% tracked clinical outcomes and only 28% tracked staff workload.

ScienceSoft notes that value measurement becomes especially important when providers decide whether to expand a successful pilot. A model can perform well on its immediate task without delivering the expected result across the wider workflow. ScienceSoft recommends defining the outcome that should justify wider deployment — such as more appointments, less after-hours documentation, or lower operating costs — and checking whether that outcome actually improves.

The Trend Watch also highlights other Q3 developments. Some large health systems are adopting dedicated AI governance platforms. AI agents are handling substantial volumes of patient calls, scheduling, and billing interactions. And general-purpose AI interfaces such as Gemini are beginning to connect patients directly to provider search and appointment booking.
