Business-Oriented Financial Intranet to Increase Employee Productivity

The Customer is a European company that offers financial advisory and investment management services.

Challenge

The company already had a subscription to SharePoint Online and wanted to implement a business-oriented intranet based on this platform with several custom web parts. The Customer required to pay special attention to a solution’s design, so the intranet was to have a modern look and feel. What’s more, the Customer wanted to remove all references to SharePoint from the intranet.

Solution

ScienceSoft’s team started the project by developing layouts of the master page and the home page of the intranet. In accordance with the Customer’s requirements, they removed all the references to the SharePoint platform (Office 365, Share, Follow, and other icons) from the intranet’s pages by hiding the relevant links.

ScienceSoft’s team developed web parts aimed to give users quick and easy access to the following information:

• Contacts. This web part makes a list of the most popular contacts. It also enables searching through the contacts, as well as filtering them by various criteria (a user’s subordinate employees, colleagues, etc.), including alphabetical sorting. Clicking on a contact redirects a user to the contact’s Delve page that shows more details about the employee, including their recently created or modified documents.
• Events. The web part displays upcoming personalized events and synchronizes them with a user’s calendar.
• Business information. This web part displays personalized financial information related to an employee’s work like funds and assets under management. This information is pulled from SharePoint lists.
• News. This web part serves for opening news and comments on a separate page.
• External sources. Two navigation web parts provide links to external sources and the most popular documents.

Also, our team created a knowledge base that contained financial forms, onboarding guidelines, etc.

Results

The Customer got an attractive business-oriented financial intranet with a unique feel. Equipped with the custom web parts, the intranet is convenient to use, which improves user adoption and decreases the time for searching the required information or contacts. Thus, the intranet offers effective support of the company’s business activities.
