ScienceSoft’s Julia Lebedeva Discusses Healthcare AI Transformation With SuperbCrew
Published:
ScienceSoft’s Head of Healthcare IT & AI Practice, Julia Lebedeva, gave an interview to SuperbCrew, a resource covering innovative companies, startups, and technology trends. Julia discussed how healthcare organizations can approach AI transformation pragmatically, where the biggest implementation risks lie, and what ScienceSoft expects to focus on in the coming months.
A key theme of the interview was starting AI initiatives with a concrete operational problem and a measurable target rather than with the technology itself.
“We start with the business problem, such as staff shortages, long wait times, patient access issues, slow charting, and so on. Ultimately, those are the problems we need to solve as technology consultants. We ask where AI can bring measurable business improvements: Can it reduce manual work or operating costs? Speed up a process? Help people make better or faster decisions?”
Julia also emphasized that healthcare organizations need to treat AI risks as engineering requirements from the outset. She pointed to output validation, human oversight, and patient data protection as areas that need to be addressed before an AI system moves into real clinical or administrative workflows.
“In healthcare, we need to treat AI risks as engineering problems because the cost of an error here is astronomical. First, there are hallucinations. <…> Limits on AI authority are another major concern, since we do not want an AI model, even by accident, to give medical advice or change a health record without a clinician’s approval. And then, of course, there is privacy. <…> These are all things we need to work out for every healthcare AI project before we even start building anything.”
Looking ahead, Julia expects healthcare organizations to put greater emphasis on proving the financial and operational value of AI beyond isolated pilots. She also sees AI governance becoming increasingly important as organizations prepare to extend successful use cases to more workflows. For ScienceSoft, this means continuing to develop AI solutions around measurable operational improvements while strengthening the governance practices needed for broader adoption.
