AI-Powered Workout Converter Development for TriadXP
Summary
ScienceSoft developed an AI converter for the TriadXP fitness app that turns workout instructions from plain text or images into editable in-app workouts. This reduces manual setup and lets users follow their existing workout plans using TriadXP's guided exercises.
About Triad Fitness Group
Triad Fitness Group is a US fitness technology company behind athlete development brands including TriadXP and 168 Coach. TriadXP is a cross-platform fitness app for trainers, school coaches, and athletes. Trainers can create, customize, and share structured workouts, while athletes can follow guided sessions with audio prompts and timers.
However, to recreate an existing workout plan in TriadXP, users had to add the relevant exercises or find them in the built-in library and manually enter parameters such as repetitions and timing. This setup was especially burdensome for trainers who often needed to recreate dozens of personalized workouts for their clients.
Triad Fitness Group wanted to automate this process with AI. For the development of the AI functionality, the company turned to its long-standing technology partner, ScienceSoft, which had been supporting and enhancing TriadXP for about five years.
AI Models Comparison and Feature Enhancement Plan
Upon exploring Triad Fitness Group's original text-to-workout idea, ScienceSoft proposed expanding it to screenshots and photos of existing workout plans, as well as handwritten notes. This would let trainers use their existing printed or online programs without retyping them. The models under consideration could interpret images directly, so ScienceSoft expected the enhancement to require little additional development effort. The client approved the proposal.
Since TriadXP's back end was already hosted on Azure, ScienceSoft chose Azure OpenAI for the new AI feature to simplify integration and selected lightweight models to balance conversion quality with inference costs. At the time the AI feature was launched, it used gpt-4.1-mini and gpt-4o-mini.
Building the AI Workout Conversion Workflow
ScienceSoft's senior .NET and .NET MAUI developers implemented the back end conversion workflow and integrated the AI feature into TriadXP's mobile app.
Users submit a workout description or image through the TriadXP mobile app. The back end sends it to Azure OpenAI with app-specific instructions, exercise context, and the required output structure in JSON format. The back end then maps the model response to TriadXP's exercise library and reuses existing custom workout creation functionality to build a workout users can edit and use in the app.
TriadXP AI-assisted workout creation flow

Before release, Triad Fitness Group's representative tested early conversions using real workouts from magazines and online sources relevant to TriadXP users. Testing exposed difficulties matching exercise variations, such as a one-arm push-up, to the correct entries in TriadXP's library. ScienceSoft adjusted the model prompt and AI output processing rules, which fixed the matching issue.
Following further testing and refinements, ScienceSoft delivered the first production version of the AI feature in approximately four weeks.
User interface for image-to-workout conversion

- Uploading a workout image. 2. Getting an editable workout.
Mike Elia, CEO of Triad Fitness Group, says:
Over the years, ScienceSoft has helped us successfully navigate many changes to TriadXP, including shifts in our business model and target audience. This time, as always, they did an excellent job of bringing this AI feature idea to life. Users have responded positively to the new feature, and we're pleased with how quickly it was delivered and how naturally it fits into the overall user experience.

Key Outcomes for Triad Fitness Group
- Stronger user retention potential. With the AI conversion functionality, users can bring workouts from outside TriadXP (incl. routines from websites, magazine photos, and handwritten notes) into the app instead of switching to another tool or giving up on using their preferred program in TriadXP.
- Less prep work for trainers. AI-generated workout drafts are ready for review in under a minute, and users were impressed with how quickly and easily the feature converts existing workouts into editable sessions in TriadXP.
- A more competitive product, delivered quickly. ScienceSoft expanded the original text-to-workout idea to support images and handwritten plans as well, and delivered the first production version in about four weeks, giving TriadXP a broader AI-assisted workout creation experience without a long development cycle.
